Team USA has scheduled two preparatory games ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics as part of the 2024 USA Basketball Showcase. The national team will face South Sudan on July 20 and take on the reigning FIBA World Cup champion, Germany, on July 22 at London’s O2 Arena. These matchups are crucial for the USA Basketball national teams in their preparations for major competitions, including the FIBA World Cup and the Olympic Summer Games.
The games, set to tip off at 8 p.m. local time/3 p.m. ET, will be a significant part of the team’s training for the upcoming Olympics. The showcase will be televised live in the United States by FOX Sports, and tickets for both contests will be available for purchase starting Friday, Dec. 15, at www.usab.com/tickets.
Gordon Herbert, the head coach of Germany, expressed the significance of playing against the USA as a final tune-up before the Olympics, providing a valuable measuring stick for his team. Luol Deng, the president of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, sees this opportunity as a chance for their developing program to compete at an elite level.
The USA men’s team will initiate its Olympic preparation with a training camp in Las Vegas, followed by additional details on the USA Basketball Showcase, team rosters, and more to be announced later. Having officially qualified for the 2024 Olympics, the American men aim for their fifth consecutive gold medal.
In total, USA Basketball will be represented by four teams at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, including 5-on-5 men and women and 3×3 men and women. The USA, reigning Olympic champions in 5-on-5 men and women and 3×3 women, is set to make their 3×3 men’s Olympic debut next summer. More information about all four USA Basketball teams will be disclosed at a later date.
